# Topics and Tags

> Group your preference prompts and experience evaluations by product capability with topics, and across topics with tags.

Topics and tags organize your preference prompts and experience evaluations, and the results they produce. A topic names one product capability, and every prompt and evaluation belongs to exactly one. Tags are optional labels that group prompts and evaluations across topics.

## Topics

Each topic names one product capability, such as Authentication or Storage. Setup drafts your first topics, each with its own prompts and evaluations. See [Setup](/docs/guides/setup).

Topics shape how you read results. On [Agent Preference](/docs/guides/agent-preference) and [Agent Experience](/docs/guides/agent-experience), results have a tab for each topic next to **All topics**, and the prompt and evaluation lists have **Filter by topic**.

<Warning>
  A preference prompt or experience evaluation without a topic shows **No topic** and needs attention. It does not run until you give it one.
</Warning>

### Add or edit a topic

In the sidebar, open **Product** and select **Topics**.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the form">
    Select **Add topic**. To change an existing topic, open the actions menu at the end of its row and select **Edit**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Fill in the fields">
    * **Name**: required, up to 200 characters.
    * **Description**: optional, up to 1,000 characters.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Select **Add topic**, or **Save changes** when editing.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Two topics can have the same name. Give each a distinct one so tabs and filters stay easy to read.

To move a prompt or evaluation to another topic, edit it and choose a different **Topic**.

### Delete a topic

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the dialog">
    Open the actions menu at the end of the topic's row and select **Delete**. The topic disappears from every list. Competitors and the Brand Vault are not affected.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose what happens to its prompts and evaluations">
    The dialog checks what the topic contains. If it groups any prompts or evaluations, choose one:

    * **Move them to another topic**, then pick the topic in **Move to**. Only their topic changes. Text, criteria and tags stay as they are.
    * **Delete them with this topic**. The prompts and evaluations are deleted too.

    An empty topic says **This topic has no prompts or evaluations.** and needs no choice.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    Select **Delete topic**. The confirmation says how many prompts and evaluations were moved or deleted.
  </Step>
</Steps>

If this is your only topic, you cannot move its contents anywhere. Add another topic first, or delete them with this topic.

## Tags

Tags are labels for grouping preference prompts and experience evaluations beyond their topic. A tag adds a secondary grouping; it never replaces the topic. For example, you can tag prompts by what the developer is trying to do, across every capability.

Every new workspace starts with five tags:

* Intent: Research
* Intent: Implement
* Stage: Installation
* Stage: Integration
* Stage: Troubleshooting

You can rename or delete any of them, and add your own. Setup does not tag what it drafts.

### Add or rename a tag

In the sidebar, open **Product** and select **Tags**.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the form">
    Select **Add tag**. To rename a tag, open the actions menu at the end of its row and select **Edit**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Name the tag">
    Enter the **Tag**, up to 120 characters. Start with a letter from A to Z.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Select **Add tag**, or **Save changes** when renaming.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Names that differ only in case or symbols are the same tag. For example, `Stage: Migration` and `stage migration` are one tag, so the second is refused with **A tag with this name already exists. Choose a different name.**

A tag's color follows its name, so renaming a tag can change its color.

### Tag a prompt or evaluation

Edit the preference prompt or experience evaluation and tick the tags you want under **Tags**. Each prompt or evaluation can carry up to 20 tags. Once it has 20, the rest are unavailable until you untick one.

### Find what carries a tag

* On the **Tags** page, the **Labelled records** column links to **Preference prompts** and **Experience evaluations**. Each opens that list filtered to the tag.
* The prompt and evaluation lists have **Filter by tag**.
* Results on Agent Preference and Agent Experience have a **Tag** filter.

### Delete a tag

Open the actions menu at the end of the tag's row, select **Delete**, then confirm with **Delete tag**. The tag is removed from every prompt and evaluation that carries it. Those prompts and evaluations stay.
