# Organizations and workspaces

> How an organization holds your team and a workspace holds your product, and how to create, switch, rename and leave organizations.

An organization is your team's shared home in Agentrail. Its workspace holds your product, and everything Agentrail researches, runs and scans for that product, so the people in the organization all work from the same results.

## Organizations

An organization holds people and their roles. Everyone in it is an **Admin** or a **Member**. See [People and roles](/docs/guides/people-and-roles) for what each role can do.

* The person who creates an organization becomes its first Admin.
* An organization always has at least one Admin.
* You can belong to more than one organization: the one you create, and any you join by invitation.
* Everyone in the organization sees its name.

## Workspaces

A workspace holds one product: its name, its website, and everything Agentrail builds on them. Your organization's workspace is created with the organization, from the **Organization name** and **Website** you enter. Setup uses that name as your product's name and researches that website.

What lives in a workspace:

| In the workspace | Where to read more |
| - | - |
| Setup progress | [Setup](/docs/guides/setup) |
| Brand Vault | [Brand Vault](/docs/guides/brand-vault) |
| Competitors | [Competitors](/docs/guides/competitors) |
| Topics and tags | [Topics and tags](/docs/guides/topics-and-tags) |
| Preference prompts and their results | [Agent Preference](/docs/guides/agent-preference) |
| Experience evaluations and their results | [Agent Experience](/docs/guides/agent-experience) |
| Executions and their run settings | [Executions](/docs/guides/executions) |
| Agent readiness scans and settings | [Agent readiness](/docs/guides/agent-readiness) |
| Feedback projects and their reports | [Feedback](/docs/guides/feedback) |

A new workspace also starts with a set of tags you can use straight away.

When a message says "in this workspace", for example **This execution does not exist in this workspace.**, it means the workspace you are working in.

<Note>
  The workspace's website is shown under **General** in Settings, but it can't be edited there. Agent readiness always scans this website.
</Note>

## Create an organization

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the form">
    The first time you sign in, Agentrail opens **Create your organization**. If you joined an organization by invitation and haven't created one of your own, open the organization menu at the top of the sidebar and select **Create organization**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Name it">
    Enter an **Organization name** of 1 to 120 characters. Setup also uses it as your product's name.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter your website">
    Enter your product's public **Website**. Type `example.com`, or include `http://` or `https://`. The address must be on the public internet and can't contain a user name or password.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Create it">
    Select **Create organization**. You become the organization's Admin, and Setup opens.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  Each account can create one organization. Once yours exists, **Create organization** no longer appears in the organization menu. To join another organization, ask one of its Admins for an invitation.
</Warning>

If your account can't create an organization and doesn't belong to one, Agentrail shows **No organization is available**. Select **View invitations** to see invitations sent to your email, or **Sign out**. To join with an invitation, see [Accept an invitation](/docs/guides/people-and-roles#accept-an-invitation).

## Setup comes first

A new organization opens to Setup and nothing else. Until setup is finished there is no sidebar, and the product pages and Settings stay closed. From the setup page you can switch organization or sign out.

Only an Admin moves setup forward. A Member who opens an organization during setup sees how far it has got, with a note such as **An Admin continues setup from here.**

Settings, including **People**, opens once setup is finished, so you invite your team after setup. See [Setup](/docs/guides/setup).

## Switch organizations

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the organization menu">
    Select the organization's name at the top of the sidebar. On the setup page, it is in the header.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose an organization">
    Under **Organization**, select the one you want. A check marks the organization you are in.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Agentrail shows **Switching organization…**, then opens the organization you chose. If that organization hasn't finished setup, you land on its setup page.

## Organization settings

Open the account menu at the bottom of the sidebar, then select **Settings**. The **Organization** section has three pages:

* **Overview**: the organization's name, its **Website** and **Your role**, with links to **General** and **People**.
* **General**: **Organization details**, with the **Organization name** and the website, and **Your membership**, with your role and **Leave organization**.
* **People**: the people in the organization and their invitations. See [People and roles](/docs/guides/people-and-roles).

### Rename an organization

Only an Admin can rename an organization. A Member sees **Only an Admin can change organization details.**

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open General">
    In Settings, select **General**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Change the name">
    Edit **Organization name**, using 1 to 120 characters, then select **Save**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Agentrail confirms with **Organization name updated.**

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open General">
    In Settings, select **General**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Leave">
    Under **Your membership**, select **Leave organization**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm">
    In **Leave this organization?**, select **Leave organization**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

You lose access straight away. You can return only if an Admin invites you again.

<Warning>
  The only Admin can't leave: **Leave organization** is turned off, with the hint **Assign another Admin before leaving.** Make another member an Admin first, as described in [Change a role](/docs/guides/people-and-roles#change-a-role).
